Temperature and Humidity Cyclic Testing

Temperature and Humidity Cyclic Testing

Temperature and Humidity Cyclic Testing is a critical environmental test used across industries such as electronics, automotive, aerospace, telecommunications, and consumer products. It involves exposing materials, components, or complete products to cycles of varying temperature and humidity conditions. These conditions simulate real-world environments to evaluate product durability, reliability, and long-term performance under combined environmental stressors.

The test typically alternates between high-temperature, high-humidity phases and low-temperature, low-humidity phases, mimicking real-life operating conditions such as those experienced in tropical climates, rapid altitude changes, or seasonal transitions. The specific conditions—temperature range, humidity levels, ramp rates, dwell times, and number of cycles—are defined by internationally recognized test standards and customer specifications.

Standards Followed:

  • IEC 60068-2-30
  • IEC 60068-2-38
  • MIL-STD-810H, Method 507.6
  • ASTM D1183
  • ISO 16750-4

These standards help ensure consistency, reproducibility, and compliance with regulatory or customer requirements across different markets.

Objectives and Importance of Cyclic Testing

The primary objective of Temperature and Humidity Cyclic Testing is to evaluate a product’s resistance to degradation caused by moisture, thermal expansion/contraction, and condensation. The process is also used to detect:

  • Moisture ingress and accumulation in materials, seals, or enclosures.
  • Delamination or blistering in coated, laminated, or composite materials.
  • Cracking, warping, or deformation caused by thermal cycling.
  • Electrochemical corrosion in electronic assemblies and solder joints.
  • Failure of gaskets and sealing elements due to material fatigue.
  • Breathing effects, where repeated thermal expansion and contraction draw moisture into components.

This form of testing is especially effective for identifying latent or intermittent faults that may not be evident during single-environment tests (e.g., only temperature or only humidity). It is widely regarded as a highly accelerated life test (HALT) technique, helping manufacturers ensure product reliability over time and in adverse conditions.

Test Chamber Capabilities and Specifications

Our Composite Temperature and Humidity Test Chambers are equipped to deliver precise, repeatable environmental conditions across a wide range of parameters. These chambers are used for accelerated testing, qualification, and validation of products and materials under development or in production.

Environmental Range Capabilities:

  • Temperature Range: from -50°C to +150°C Suitable for simulating arctic, temperate, tropical, and desert environments.
  • Relative Humidity Range: from 10% RH to 98% RH Covers dry desert air to fully saturated conditions typically found in tropical or marine climates.

Available Working Spaces (mm):

  • Max chamber volume: 1000 x 1000 x 1000 Ideal for large assemblies or multiple specimen testing.
  • Smaller test space: 400 x 500 x 600 Economical for smaller components or prototype testing.
