Tape Friction Testing
The Tape Friction Testing Machine is designed to evaluate the abrasion resistance of various surfaces, including but not limited to:
- Coated and uncoated materials (e.g., paper, films, tapes)
- Consumer electronic devices (e.g., mobile phones, tablets, laptops)
- Painted, anodized, and plastic surfaces
This test simulates real-world wear and tear caused by friction, ensuring the product’s surface finish can withstand repeated use without significant degradation. It is widely used in quality control, product development, and compliance testing across industries such as electronics, packaging, and automotive.
The test involves applying a standard 175g load onto a test sample using a rotating friction mechanism. The machine records the number of revolutions until visible wear or failure occurs. A lamp magnifying glass is provided to visually assess surface damage, particularly for softer or more delicate substrates.
The wear resistance is judged by:
- The number of revolutions before visible degradation
- Surface integrity, assessed visually or with magnification
- Adhesion properties (for coated surfaces, if applicable)
Industries Served:
- Consumer Electronics
- Coatings and Paint Manufacturing
- Packaging and Printing
- Plastics and Polymers
- Automotive Interiors and Components
Standards Followed:
- ASTM D1044
- ISO 9352
Note: Customizable test settings can be configured to meet other national or industry-specific abrasion standards.
